Application crashes via buffer allocation mismatch
Published Oct 13, 2026 · Updated Oct 13, 2026
Buffer overflow in madmurphy libconfini 1.16.4 allows attackers to crash applications via INI input handled by load_ini_buffer. The bundled utility allocates exactly ini_length bytes, but strip_ini_cache() writes a NUL terminator at ini_source[ini_length], one byte beyond the allocation. Remote exposure requires a consuming application to accept attacker-controlled INI input through this allocation pattern; the reported consequence is heap corruption and process termination.
