Service interruption via quadratic issue-reference keyword scanning
Published Oct 6, 2026 · Updated Oct 6, 2026
Denial of service in Gitea 1.27.3 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to stall issue processing with reference-heavy comments. The findActionKeywords function scans the entire preceding text for action keywords once per reference, making FindAllIssueReferences take quadratic time. An account able to submit issue or pull-request comments can occupy a CPU core for minutes with a sufficiently large body; the public report does not establish a crash or persistent outage.
