Authenticated file placement via unchecked path joins
Published May 25, 2026 · Updated May 25, 2026
Path traversal in dazeb Markdown Downloader at commit 3d4394b allows remote authenticated users to write outside the download directory. The download_markdown, list_downloaded_files, and create_subdirectory handlers join untrusted directory values to the configured root, then call writeFile, readdir, or ensureDir without checking the resolved boundary. Access to the configured MCP tools is required; traversal can create directories, enumerate directory entries, and place fetched content wherever the server process can write.
