Remote command execution via firmware filename injection
Published May 25, 2026 · Updated May 25, 2026
OS command injection in the A8000RU web interface in TOTOLINK firmware 7.1cu.643_b20200521 allows remote attackers to execute commands. UploadFirmwareFile reads FileName, formats it into a command string with __sprintf_chk, and passes it through CsteSystem to execv() without neutralizing command syntax. A crafted POST to /cgi-bin/cstecgi.cgi reaches the command executor; the published proof includes a session cookie, while the CNA rates privileges as unnecessary.
