Service crash via unreleased per-request tracking objects
Published Sep 21, 2026 · Updated Sep 21, 2026
Resource exhaustion in SmallRye Fault Tolerance allows remote attackers to crash affected Quarkus applications through repeated requests. Calls through ApplyGuard or ApplyFaultTolerance create uniquely identified Micrometer tracking entries that remain retained instead of being reused or released. The application must expose an annotated call path with metrics enabled; sustained traffic then increases heap use, slows processing, and ultimately crashes the service.
