Authenticated device crash via unchecked parameter copy
Published May 25, 2026 · Updated May 25, 2026
Stack-based buffer overflow in Edimax EW-7438RPn 1.31 allows remote authenticated users to crash the device through its web interface. The formWlanMP handler copies oversized POST parameters such as ateFunc into a stack-local buffer without checking their length, overwriting the saved return address. Low-privileged web-interface access is required; the published proof of concept demonstrates a persistent service crash, while the overwrite permits arbitrary code execution.
