File disclosure via alias path traversal
Published Sep 21, 2026 · Updated Sep 21, 2026
Path traversal in nvm 0.40.7 and earlier allows context-dependent attackers to read local files via a crafted .nvmrc value. The nvm_alias function concatenates an unchecked alias onto $NVM_DIR/alias, and nvm_print_alias_file emits noncomment lines from the escaped path. Exploitation requires a user to run an nvm command in an attacker-supplied repository, exposing the first meaningful line of any file readable by that user; a directly supplied traversing alias exposes every meaningful line.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
