Administrator account takeover via predictable reset tokens
Published Sep 20, 2026 · Updated Sep 20, 2026
Predictable reset tokens in NivoCart 2.4.0 and earlier allow remote attackers to take over administrator accounts through password recovery. The forgotten.php endpoint truncates an MD5 digest of PHP mt_rand() output to create a 10-character code, while getUserByCode accepts any nonempty matching code without checking its age. Unauthenticated exploitation requires a known administrator email address; absent rate limiting and expiration leave requested codes available for prediction or brute force.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
