Privilege escalation via restore-time table-prefix SQL injection
Published Oct 16, 2026 · Updated Oct 16, 2026
SQL injection in Backuply for WordPress 1.5.8 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to gain Administrator access via restore. The restore importer treats biography text matched by an unanchored table-prefix expression as trusted SQL and concatenates it into an UPDATE query. Subscriber-level access and an Administrator restoring a subsequently created backup are required; arbitrary database writes enable site takeover without directly returning existing data.
