Kernel memory corruption via double-free during probe cleanup
Published Sep 24, 2026 · Updated Sep 24, 2026
A double-free in the Linux kernel virtio-fs driver allows attackers controlling a virtio-fs device to corrupt kernel memory during probe cleanup. The virtio_fs_setup_vqs() failure path frees fs->vqs and fs->mq_map but leaves both pointers live, so virtio_fs_ktype_release() frees them again. Triggering it requires a guest to probe a broken device that advertises more request queues than its transport provides.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
