System crash via unlocked PCI root-bus removal
Published Sep 24, 2026 · Updated Sep 24, 2026
Race condition in the Rockchip PCIe host controller in Linux allows local users to crash the system during root-bus removal. rockchip_pcie_remove() stops and removes the root bus without holding pci_rescan_remove_lock, so a concurrent sysfs rescan or hotplug operation can access freed bus state. Reaching the race requires a Rockchip host controller and privileged driver removal or PCI sysfs activity; the documented consequence is use-after-free or a system crash.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
