System crash via unlocked PCI root-bus removal
Published Sep 24, 2026 · Updated Sep 24, 2026
Race condition in the MediaTek PCIe controller in Linux allows local users to crash the system through concurrent sysfs operations. The mtk_pcie_remove() path stops and removes a PCI root bus without holding pci_rescan_remove_lock, allowing a concurrent rescan or hotplug operation to access freed state. The required gate is local ability to trigger the relevant sysfs operations; the bounded result is a use-after-free condition or system crash.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
