Incorrect SMB state via uninitialized open data
Published Sep 24, 2026 · Updated Sep 24, 2026
Uninitialized data in the SMB client in Linux before 6.12.111 and 6.18.53 allows attackers to cause incorrect field values during file operations. The cifs_query_mf_symlink, smb_set_file_info, and __cifs_sfu_make_node paths allocate cifs_open_info_data on the stack without clearing fields that later code can read. Reachability requires an affected CIFS client path; published evidence establishes incorrect internal values but not disclosure, privilege escalation, or a crash.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
