Node.js process crash via unbounded AST recursion

Published Sep 18, 2026 · Updated Sep 18, 2026

Uncontrolled recursion in Micromatch Braces 3.0.3 and earlier allows remote attackers to crash a Node.js process via nested patterns. The compile and expand AST walkers recurse once per nested brace without a depth guard, so inputs below the 10,000-character cap exhaust the call stack. Exploitation requires a consuming application to pass attacker-controlled brace patterns and leave the resulting RangeError uncaught; the consequence is process termination.
