Host-process crash via indirect descriptor bounds bypass
Published Oct 14, 2026 · Updated Oct 14, 2026
Out-of-bounds reads in the DPDK vhost library allow guest OS users to crash the host process via indirect virtio descriptors. The host rereads guest-controlled table lengths and allocates copies before validation; changing lengths or invalid next indices in the vDPA relay path drive traversal beyond mapped or copied memory. Exploitation requires guest control of descriptors consumed by the backend; out-of-bounds bytes become GPA translation fields rather than payload returned to the guest.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.

Attacks
What attackers are doing with it
Daily unique IPs observed by Shadowserver honeypots for known exploited vulnerabilities (KEVs). Missing observations do not establish an absence of attacks.
Activity data is delayed. The latest report is Sep 28, 2026.
