CVE-2026-9365Network attack vector

Process crash via unchecked GG packet length

Published May 24, 2026 · Updated May 24, 2026

Heap-based buffer overflow in Ettercap 0.8.0 through 0.8.3 allows remote attackers to crash the process via crafted GG traffic. FUNC_DECODER in src/dissectors/ec_gg.c copies a packet-controlled gg->len value into the 71-byte tbuf2 heap buffer without an upper bound, then writes a terminator at the derived offset. Ettercap must be actively sniffing TCP port 8074 traffic, with the attacker on the same network segment or in a man-in-the-middle position; the demonstrated consequence is memory corruption and process termination.
