Host code execution via nullish receiver leak
Published Sep 18, 2026 · Updated Sep 18, 2026
Sandbox escape in Patrik Simek vm2 through 3.12.0 allows attackers to execute arbitrary host code via a nullish function receiver. The apply trap in lib/bridge.js passes an undefined receiver into a non-strict host function, after which V8 substitutes the host global and vm2 wraps it for sandbox access. Exploitation requires an exposed non-strict host function; strict-mode and ES module functions are unaffected, while successful escape grants the sandbox access to process and host command execution.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
