Certificate acceptance via ignored URI name constraints
Published Sep 18, 2026 · Updated Sep 21, 2026
Improper certificate validation in Rustls rustls-webpki allows attackers to bypass X.509 URI name constraints in affected releases. The X.509 name-constraints path ignores URI-name constraints and accepts the certificate chain instead of rejecting that unsupported constraint. Exploitation requires successful signature verification and a misissued certificate in versions 0.101.0 through 0.103.11 or 0.104.0-alpha.1 through 0.104.0-alpha.5; the library exposes no API for asserting URI names.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
Is a vulnerable build present?
Compare these published version ranges with your installed build and any vendor patches.
- Affected versionversion=0.101.0 <0.103.12
- Affected versionversion=0.104.0-alpha.1 <0.104.0-alpha.6

What attackers are doing with it
Daily unique IPs observed by Shadowserver honeypots for known exploited vulnerabilities (KEVs). Missing observations do not establish an absence of attacks.
