Authentication bypass via spoofed Remote-User header
Published Oct 12, 2026 · Updated Oct 12, 2026
Authentication bypass in ((OTRS)) Community Edition 6 and earlier allows remote attackers to impersonate users via a Remote-User header. The HTTPBasicAuth modules trust HTTP_REMOTE_USER as an authenticated username without password verification when CGI or mod_perl maps the supplied header into that environment variable. Exploitation requires the HTTP Basic Authentication backend and a reachable Generic Interface without effective upstream authentication; access to confidential information and modification of data or configuration are limited to the impersonated account's permissions.
