Tunnel policy bypass via Host-controlled authority
Published Sep 18, 2026 · Updated Sep 18, 2026
Improper input validation in Netty netty-codec-http2 allows remote attackers to bypass CONNECT tunnel policy via a conflicting Host header. HttpConversionUtil.toHttp2Headers applies generic request conversion to authority-form CONNECT requests, copies Host into :authority, and emits forbidden :scheme and :path pseudo-headers. Exploitation requires a Netty-based HTTP/1-to-HTTP/2 proxy or gateway and permits tunneling to an unintended upstream target without code execution or memory corruption.
