HTTP request smuggling via skipped chunk-line validation
Published Sep 18, 2026 · Updated Sep 18, 2026
HTTP request smuggling in Red Hat products using Netty netty-codec-http allows remote attackers to inject arbitrary HTTP requests. HttpObjectDecoder.checkChunkExtensions returns without running HttpChunkLineValidatingByteProcessor when a chunk-size line lacks a semicolon, so an embedded bare carriage return is accepted. Exploitation requires a reachable HTTP/1.1 endpoint using the affected decoder and enables request-boundary desynchronization with downstream components.
