Pre-auth denial of service via unreleased ByteBuf
Published Sep 18, 2026 · Updated Sep 18, 2026
Resource leak in Netty's STOMP decoder allows remote attackers to exhaust memory with frames lacking a NUL terminator. After reading the declared body, StompSubframeDecoder parks its ByteBuf in lastContent while awaiting the terminator, but channel teardown has no release path for that field. The condition is reachable before application-level authentication; repeated connect-send-disconnect cycles permanently consume pooled memory until the hosting application crashes.
