Service interruption via unbounded pipeline queue
Published Sep 18, 2026 · Updated Sep 18, 2026
Resource exhaustion in Netty HttpServerCodec in affected Red Hat products allows remote attackers to interrupt services via HTTP/1.1 pipelining. HttpServerCodec records each unanswered request method after the first 32 entries in methodOverflowQueue, appending to an ArrayDeque without a size bound. An unauthenticated client must keep a connection open, pipeline requests, and withhold response reads, driving heap exhaustion and service interruption.
