Local process crash via unbounded VPD length
Published Sep 21, 2026 · Updated Sep 21, 2026
Stack buffer overflow in libstoragemgmt allows local users controlling a storage device to crash a serial-number query process. The _sg_parse_vpd_80() function trusts the length field in SCSI VPD page 0x80 while copying serial-number data into a stack buffer. The attacker must control a local or virtual SCSI device; the documented consequence is process instability or a crash, not data access.
