Authenticated file modification via unchecked SFTP path resolution
Published Sep 24, 2026 · Updated Sep 24, 2026
Path traversal in copyparty 1.20.24 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to alter files outside permitted SFTP volumes. The _mkdir, _rmdir, and _chattr handlers resolve attacker-chosen destinations with vfs.get(), vn.canonical(), and os.path.join() without calling chk_ap. Exploitation requires SFTP access, xvol enforcement, and a traversable symlink; successful requests create directories, remove directories, or truncate files outside authorized volumes.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
