Host device access or hangs via special files
Published Oct 5, 2026 · Updated Oct 5, 2026
Special-file handling in Moby Project BuildKit 0.33.0 and earlier allows attackers to hang builds or access host devices via crafted build inputs. Daemon-side snapshot reads treat special-file inodes as regular files, while LLB mkfile operations fail to replace existing special files safely. An operator must run an untrusted build; blocking also affects rootless workers, while unintended host-device access requires a rootful worker.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
