Kernel crash via F2FS GC thread use-after-free
Published Sep 24, 2026 · Updated Sep 24, 2026
Use-after-free in Linux F2FS GC-thread teardown allows local users to crash the kernel by racing remount or shutdown operations. The __sbi_store path reads sbi->gc_thread while f2fs_stop_gc_thread frees or clears the same dynamically allocated object, leaving its f2fs_gc_task dereference invalid. Triggering the race requires a mounted F2FS filesystem and privileged filesystem-control access; the bounded consequence is a kernel crash.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
