Kernel crash via active NAPI use-after-free
Published Sep 24, 2026 · Updated Sep 24, 2026
Use-after-free in the Linux Octeon Ethernet driver in 2.6.34 and affected later revisions allows attackers to crash the kernel during removal. cvm_oct_rx_shutdown frees interrupts and deletes NAPI state without first disabling polling, allowing an active poll to access the freed platform structure. The race requires an Octeon device, active receive polling, and concurrent driver removal; public material does not establish an attacker-controlled trigger.
