Process exit stall via serialized memcg OOM handling
Published Sep 24, 2026 · Updated Sep 24, 2026
Denial of service in Linux allows attackers to stall OOM-killed multithreaded processes during exit through crafted memory pressure. After the one-shot OOM reaper sets MMF_OOM_SKIP, futex cleanup faults zswapped pages and makes thousands of dying threads serialize through the no-victim memcg OOM path. Triggering the condition requires a memory-constrained cgroup, zswap-backed robust-futex pages, heavy threading, and mmap_lock contention; the demonstrated consequence is a prolonged process exit.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
