System crash via unterminated GUD mode name
Published Sep 24, 2026 · Updated Sep 24, 2026
Out-of-bounds read in the Linux kernel GUD driver allows physically proximate attackers to crash a system via a malformed USB display. The gud_connector_add_tv_mode() function passes fixed-size device-supplied mode names to strlen() without first ensuring that each slot contains a NUL terminator. Triggering occurs during USB device probing and requires a malicious or noncompliant GUD peripheral; the demonstrated consequence is denial of service.
