Device-memory leak via split-folio counter underflow
Published Sep 24, 2026 · Updated Sep 24, 2026
Improper resource accounting in Linux 6.19 allows attackers to prevent Nouveau device-memory chunks from being reclaimed after folio splits. nouveau_dmem_folio_split updates sub-folio metadata but fails to increment chunk->callocated, while nouveau_dmem_folio_free decrements it for every resulting sub-folio. The affected path requires Nouveau device-private large folios to be split and later freed; no direct security-boundary impact has been published.
