CVE-2026-93232Hinoki check available

Boot-time kernel panic via uninitialized HVO tail page

Published Sep 24, 2026 · Updated Sep 24, 2026

Incorrect initialization ordering in Linux 7.1 causes the kernel to panic during boot when an affected configuration is used. gather_bootmem_prealloc() processes bootmem HugeTLB folios before zone->vmemmap_tails[] shared tail pages are initialized, so get_pfnblock_bitmap_bitidx() dereferences an uninitialized shared tail page. The failure requires CONFIG_DEBUG_VM, HVO, and bootmem HugeTLB pages; the consequence is a boot-time service interruption.
