Kernel panic via page-owner memcg_data race
Published Sep 24, 2026 · Updated Sep 24, 2026
Race condition in the Linux kernel page-owner subsystem allows local users to crash kernels built with CONFIG_DEBUG_VM enabled. print_page_owner_memcg() snapshots page->memcg_data but later re-reads it locklessly through page_memcg_check() and PageMemcgKmem() after the page can be freed and reallocated. Reading page-owner data with the debug configuration and page-owner feature active can trip VM_BUG_ON assertions, causing a kernel panic without reported data disclosure or modification.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
