Kernel crash via partially initialized DRC table
Published Sep 24, 2026 · Updated Sep 24, 2026
A race in nfsd DRC initialization in affected Linux revisions allows attackers to crash the kernel during a concurrent shrinker scan. The setup path registers its shrinker before initializing DRC bucket list heads and publishing drc_hashsize, exposing a partially initialized table. On weakly ordered arm64 and powerpc systems, a shrinker scan can observe the size first and dereference a NULL list head, producing a kernel crash.
