Kernel memory corruption via unchecked cache segment IDs
Published Sep 17, 2026 · Updated Sep 18, 2026
Out-of-bounds access in Linux dm-pcache 6.18 through 7.2.5 allows local users to corrupt kernel memory via forged cache metadata. Multiple decode and worker paths use an untrusted persistent-memory seg_id to index cache->segments[] without checking it against cache->n_segs, then dereference and write through the resulting pointer. Reaching the flaw requires CAP_SYS_ADMIN and control of the cache device during a device-mapper table load; valid driver-created cache images are unaffected.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
