Monitoring interruption via misordered uncore reference counting
Published Sep 17, 2026 · Updated Sep 17, 2026
Reference-counting errors in Linux 6.11 Intel uncore perf allow local users to interrupt monitoring via CPU hotplug transitions. In uncore_event_cpu_online() and uncore_event_cpu_offline(), reference operations run on the wrong side of uncore_change_context(), skipping initialization, undercounting references, and mistiming teardown. The behavior requires the affected Intel uncore path and CPU online or offline transitions; the disclosure establishes monitoring lifecycle failures, not a specific kernel crash or data disclosure.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
