DMA descriptor corruption via premature transfer restart
Published Sep 17, 2026 · Updated Sep 18, 2026
Race condition in the Linux kernel's xilinx_dma driver allows local users to corrupt DMA descriptors during queued transfers. The AXIDMA and MCDMA handlers set chan->idle and call start_transfer() after moving completed descriptors, without first ensuring active_list is empty. Exploitation requires local low-privileged access and multiple active descriptors; resulting premature transfers can corrupt descriptors or miss completions.
