Data corruption via optimized probe red-zone overwrite
Published Sep 17, 2026 · Updated Sep 17, 2026
Memory corruption in Linux 6.18 x86 uprobes allows local users to overwrite application data via optimized probe instrumentation. The int3_update_optimize path in arch/x86/kernel/uprobes.c replaces a five-byte NOP with a trampoline CALL without moving the stack pointer past the 128-byte red zone, overwriting temporary user-space data with a return address. Exposure requires execution of an optimized probe in code using that red zone; the published assessment requires high local privileges, and no privilege escalation is documented.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
