Key disclosure via uncleared AES key schedule
Published Sep 17, 2026 · Updated Sep 17, 2026
Key retention in the Linux 5.11 QAT driver allows local users to access AES key material via uncleared kernel stack memory. The qat_alg_xts_reverse_key() function expands the forward XTS AES key into a temporary crypto_aes_ctx and leaves that context uncleared after copying the schedule. Disclosure requires access to residual kernel stack contents; the published notice does not identify a way to obtain that access.
