Service interruption via prematurely enabled storage queues
Published Sep 17, 2026 · Updated Sep 17, 2026
A queue-publication race in Linux 5.19 nvme-apple allows local users to interrupt storage service via incompletely initialized queues. apple_nvme_init_queue() sets enabled before its subsequent wmb(), without publishing earlier initialization to interrupt and request paths through release/acquire synchronization. Exposure requires the Apple SoC NVMe driver and concurrent queue activity; upstream does not specify an attacker-controlled trigger or whether interruption manifests as a hang or crash.
