Counter corruption via non-atomic cpuset updates
Published Sep 17, 2026 · Updated Sep 17, 2026
A race in Linux cpuset accounting allows context-dependent attackers to corrupt deadline-task counts via concurrent updates. inc_dl_tasks_cs() and cpuset_attach() modify nr_deadline_tasks under different locks, allowing overlapping non-atomic writes to corrupt the counter. Reachability requires concurrent scheduler and cpuset-attachment operations; the upstream notice does not establish attacker privileges or a specific crash, disclosure, or privilege-escalation outcome.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
