Incorrect clock calculations via unchecked nanosecond offsets
Published Sep 17, 2026 · Updated Sep 17, 2026
Linux time-namespace input validation allows local users to trigger incorrect clock calculations via malformed nanosecond offsets. In kernel/time/namespace.c, proc_timens_set_offset() passes tv_nsec values outside 0 through 999999999 to timespec64_add(), which expects normalized inputs. The path requires CONFIG_TIME_NS and CAP_SYS_TIME in the owning user namespace before any process enters the time namespace; upstream does not identify a crash, hang, or broader compromise.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
