Kernel memory corruption via untrusted BTF pointer writes
Published Sep 17, 2026 · Updated Sep 18, 2026
Memory corruption in Linux 6.2 through 7.2.5 allows local users with delegated BPF capabilities to write arbitrary kernel memory. The check_ptr_to_btf_access() path invokes program-type btf_struct_access callbacks before applying the common non-read rejection, allowing crafted BPF bytecode to store through a PTR_UNTRUSTED pointer returned by bpf_rdonly_cast(). Exploitation requires local access and delegated CAP_PERFMON and BPF capability; successful stores enable kernel reads, control-flow hijacking, or a panic.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
