Resource exhaustion via incomplete module-load cleanup
Published Sep 17, 2026 · Updated Sep 17, 2026
Resource leakage in dell-wmi-base in Linux Kernel 5.14 allows local users to exhaust resources via failed module loading. The dell_wmi_init error paths return without undoing SMBIOS requests and privacy-driver registration after subsequent registration failures. The affected path requires failed module loading on Dell hardware; Red Hat describes system hang or crash, not data access.
