Out-of-bounds read via misindexed key-event data
Published Sep 17, 2026 · Updated Sep 17, 2026
Buffer overread in Linux 5.16's Dell WMI driver allows attackers to read beyond event data via ultra performance key events. The dell_wmi_process_key() handler reads buffer[2] despite receiving data with the type and code already removed, checking only that one data word remains. Reachability requires the affected Dell WMI event path; upstream does not document an attacker-controlled trigger or a path exposing the overread data to users.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
