Kernel crash via unchecked LED registration state
Published Sep 17, 2026 · Updated Sep 17, 2026
Invalid LED access in Linux lg-laptop allows local users to crash the kernel via a backlight event after registration failure. In drivers/platform/x86/lg-laptop.c, wmi_notify() dereferences kbd_backlight.dev without checking registration success, while acpi_remove() unconditionally unregisters optional LEDs. Exposure requires the affected driver on compatible hardware and failed LED registration; the crash consequence is inferred from the unchecked dereference, not an established code-execution capability.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
