Memory corruption via uninitialized DMA fence cleanup
Published Sep 17, 2026 · Updated Sep 18, 2026
Memory corruption in affected Linux kernel branches allows local users to trigger undefined behavior through FunctionFS DMA-buffer transfers. The ffs_dmabuf_transfer() error paths call dma_fence_put() after allocation but before dma_fence_init(), leaving the reference count and operations uninitialized. Reachability requires local low-privileged access to a FunctionFS endpoint and either endpoint shutdown or request-allocation failure; the precise consequence is undisclosed.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
