Kernel-data disclosure via incorrect UTF-16 conversion length
Published Sep 17, 2026 · Updated Sep 17, 2026
Out-of-bounds reading in Linux USB gadget configfs allows local users to read adjacent kernel data through the qw_sign attribute. The os_desc_qw_sign_show() function treats the signature's 14-byte size as 14 UTF-16 code units instead of seven, exposing up to 14 bytes from following gadget_info members. Disclosure requires access to an existing gadget's configfs attribute and a stored signature that fills the array without a NUL terminator; setting that signature requires write access.
