Kernel memory corruption via resctrl teardown race
Published Sep 17, 2026 · Updated Sep 17, 2026
Use-after-free in Linux resctrl allows local users to corrupt kernel memory via concurrent resource-group removal or filesystem unmount. In rdtgroup_kn_put(), the reference count reaches zero outside rdtgroup_mutex, letting bulk teardown free the object before its flags are read and permitting a second free. Reachability requires mounted resctrl on supported hardware and concurrent teardown access; arbitrary code execution and a specific crash outcome are not established by the disclosure.
