Denial of service via SCMI notifier teardown race

Published Sep 17, 2026 · Updated Sep 17, 2026

Race condition in Linux 6.3 ARM SCMI allows local users to disrupt kernel operation via concurrent device removal and notification. In drivers/firmware/arm_scmi/driver.c, scmi_remove destroys active_protocols before unregistering the requested-device notifier, leaving callbacks able to access torn-down lookup state. The race requires active SCMI support and overlapping removal and notification; the published material does not identify a specific crash or hang.
